What I've Been Eating: Lunch at Ris

Work's been a little crazy lately, so I plotted an escape for my team at work today to cab over to Ris to explore some new resto-territory. (We can get in a Penn Quarter rut... and there are coworkers at every turn, so this was a nice change.)

While you couldn't get the full menu, there were three courses and quite a few offerings. The full Restaurant Week menu for Ris is posted here, but I'll share with you what I enjoyed:

I've been trying not to gain ten pounds during Restaurant Week, so starting off with this hearty kale soup warmed me up and wasn't so filling that I couldn't enjoy what came next... which was mussels cooked in a tomato sauce with chorizo sausage and grilled bread to soak up the yumminess.

Still trying to keep it light, I finished with the sorbet and cookies option and was rewarded with one scoop of densely delicious mango and one tangy blood orange dollop. The cookies were peanut butter and oatmeal.

Ris is on the corner of 23rd & L Streets NW and is accessible from the Foggy Bottom or Farragut West metro stations. You can scoop up a lunch or dinner reservation on Open Table or stay in touch with them on Facebook, Twitter or their website.

I heart RIS. I made reservations there for Michael's bday last year and a lot of the wait staff are former Kinkead's servers and they recognized my name on the reservations list so they reminded Ris of my Kinkead's connection and she was so kind to come over to the table to say hello. She's got a great team over there.

I always love Ris, but yes, eating there is rarely good for the waistline. You made some great picks! Let's brunch there soon :).
