Cold Mornings Made Better By Cuban Toast & Coffee

Good morning! So, for all of my Floridians out there struggling with another sub freezing morning, here's how I survive in DC. Smuggled Tampa Casino Bakery Cuban toast - fresh from the freezer, straight into my toaster oven. Pot of Dunkin Donuts coffee (sorry, Cafe Con Leche preferred but harder to come by here) & a cozy fire.

If you're cold, it's a good time to get out and get some comfort food or fire up that oven! Have a great Sunday!

The next time you come to Tampa, you have to try the Cuban bread from either La Segunda Central on 15th Street or Faedo's on Florida Avenue near Hills. I stood in line for the bread only 20 minutes on Christmas Eve but in 2008 I was down the block. It seems that Faedo never closes.

I *know* -- I wanted to do that and ran out of time. My next Tampa trip is going to focus on the best surviving old school Cuban food! (And then the next one, Italian) Please tell me where I MUST EAT! ;)

Just discovered your blog thanks to the Tampa Trib. Casino Bakery is fantastic...but I have to agree with Anonymous about La Segunda.

And this website helped me survive the year and a half that I lived in Indiana and could not get my Cuban Food fix...

Good luck and enjoy your cuban toast and coffee. I'm lovin' my Cafe Con Leche...

As for Cuban Food-you can start with Arco Iris on Columbus Drive just before Himes Avenue. Their servings are plentaful. Our favorite is their Special Chinese fried rice with anything else on the menu. In Brandon, there La Septima on Parsons near 60...In Ybor and Land O' Lakes there's always the Silver Ring. And who can pass up the Columbia Restaurant.
Let me know when you're ready for Italian

Hello! A friend sent me your blog. I'm a 7th Generation Sarasotan who lives in Takoma Park and works for the Feds in Arlington. Just got back from 2 weeks in Sarasota on 12/27. Yes, it's painful!

Oh, and try Cubano's in Silver Spring. It's owned by two good friends of mine (full disclosure), one of whom was born in Cuba and grew up in Miami. I can always count on them for a taste of home. They only serve Cubans at lunch, though. But their ropa vieja is worth going for at dinner.

Thanks Colleen! I've been racking my brain to remember the name of the Cuban join that Todd Kliman told me was pretty good in Silver Spring and I think that's it! Need to get my Cuban on!
